Day 51 - Problem solving in the rain

Day 51 - Tuesday - and it's still raining

Fortunately the rain is not as heavy and there the two identified leaks are no worse.  However, we now have a larger leak from the top of the windshield.  The previous owner told us that the windshield had been replaced at one point, but said he had had no problems.  Looks like we have inherited the problem.

We researched and called RV repair shops both around here and in the places we are going.  The first confirmed appointment I could get, which I made, is in Gillette Wyoming and we won't be there until mid July so we had better hope the weather improves.  Vicky spoke to a shop in Whitewood SD which is near Deadwood.  He said he might be able to take us next Wednesday, and we should call him Monday.  So there's hope for a quicker fix.

I called Ron at the company that installed our solar, and asked if he could help with the electrical problems.  He was very patient and had me try various things.  When nothing was working he had me open the front of the generator.  I told him I didn't think I could because the generator appeared to be installed backwards and all I could see was a sold surface.  This man is patient.  He suggested I pull on the top of the solid surface and it would come open.  It did - in fact it came off completely which Ron pointed out is what it was supposed to do.  I could now see 2 circuit breakers, one of which had tripped, probably because of a power overload.  Once I reset it, the generator started charging the batteries.  Ron told us we would have to run it for 3-4 hours since the batteries were completely run down.  In RV parks they don't like you running the generator for long periods as it makes a lot of noise,, Fortunately, here in the woods, our deer friend didn't mind.  Four hours later we had fully charged batteries and all was well.

Now let's hope we don't get too much more rain.  Every day the weather seems to be getting better, so we're back to being optimistic.  We're not doing any sightseeing, but are getting things done around the RV.  Also I've been working on my preparations for my teaching, and Vicky's continuing taking tax courses for increasing her certification level.

Tomorrow I have an instructor orientation class online but H&R Block has only just hired me and I can't get access to the systems I need, so I can't register for the class.  My new boss says she'll arrange for me to get an invitation to the class, but it won't come until at least 15 minutes before the class starts at 8am.  So I set the alarm for 7:30 and hope all will be well.
