Days 44 - Tuesday - and 45 - Wednesday Rest and Travel

Days 44 - Tuesday - and 45 - Wednesday  Rest and Travel

Tuesday was a quiet day.  Vicky repaired the full length mirror which had come loose but fortunately had not broken.  I worked on filling in the missing days for the blog but I still need to post them.  And we both worked on tax training - Vicky completed 2 courses and I completed one.  Another dinner outside, and we retired early since we have an early morning tomorrow.

A day in Rapid City

Wednesday we were up at 6am since we had an appointment at the Ford dealer in Rapid City - an hour away - at 8am.  The forecast had been for rain early, then hot and sunny.  Fortunately the rain never materialized so we had a safe and easy drive.

The car appointment was a non-event.  I detailed the problem we had with the flat battery and then the check engine light.  After consultation with Chet and Abby, and confirmation from Winslow ford that if there was a transmission program it would be covered under the warranty, we made this appointment.  When the service advisor found out that we'd made numerous trips and the check engine light never came on again, he said there was no point in having it checked since the results would be negative.  we also found out that the fuse that blew was part of the towing package we had installed.  This also hasn't recurred so we'll just have to keep our eyes open.

So it's about 8:20am and we have the whole day ahead of us.  A coffee at Starbucks and a visit to the Social Security office was followed by Vicky getting her watch battery replaced, which she's wanted to do for a while.  We found a Petsmart and although we could get the litter we like, they didn't have Quill's and Cosette's prescription food.  However, like everyone else we've met in SD they were very helpful.  They called around, found a vet's office that had the medicine, got them to put it on hold for us and gave us directions.  We then went to Petco and got the frozen raw food they also like....then, having taken care of the kids, we did our own grocery shopping.

After lunch it was time for Solo - the new Star Wars movie.  We enjoyed the story - Harrison Ford is a hard act to follow as Han Solo, but the whole cast did a good job providing a fast action movie with some good character development.  It would have been a private screening except that a grandmother and grandson joined us!  Two final stops - a natural foods store (don't get a lot of those in the country!) and the vet's to pick up the prescription food - and we were on our way home around 5pm.

We used a different route that took us through Custer State Park.  Spotted one deer, but stopped at Legion Lake Lodge.  his is much more basic than the State Game Lodge we visited earlier in the week.  It has cabins for rent, but it's by an idyllic lake - you can rent canoes and other watercraft (which we didn't) or have a simple dinner either inside or on the patio overlooking the lake (which we did).  Vicky shared some of her salad with me, and I shared some poutine with her.  I'll let you look that one up, but just say it's great!
